Corollary to installations en plein air five exhibitions of artists, that the paper did their main means of expression: Caterina Crepax, Anna Onesti, Hemmes and Hiroaki Asahara. The Crepax "carves" with the paper dresses from the details astonishing items that bring us into an atmosphere of elegance and dream. The washi paper sculptures of Hiroaki Asahara catch the eye of the beholder that you miss in a thousand locations of the look: the accuracy of detail, the tension material, space. The works of Onesti, made of Japanese paper artisan and colors, depart by extreme adherence to the materials used and seek to affirm a sensorial experience of physical and optical feel entirely original. Hemmes, the painter of "tears", makes paper living matter. The paper painted "deals" by its edges, conferring a sculptural plasticity that incites to tactility vitreous edgy, almost punitive boldness of the act, in contrast to the glow color delectable sweetmeats, passionate, buzzy. At La Cavallerizza will be set up the collective exhibition Amateras. Within this collective will be presented works from the Festival Amateras, event entirely dedicated to the paper held in Sofia (Bulgaria). The works are creations of artists from all over the world. Between Cartasia and Amateras was born a "artistic association", a kind of twinning exchanged works and ideas between the two events.
"Catching Light and Air" by Hiroaki Asahara. From June 27 to July 18 - Fondazione Lazzareschi, Porcari
Opening: Sunday, June 27 18.30: Hiroaki Asahara / Fondazione Lazzareschi, Porcari
The washi paper - the old hand-made Japanese paper - takes shape in the works of Hiroaki Asahara. Works which rise by chance, from the artist's manual and intellectual skills, that finds in paper a vehicle to express his mood and emotions. Vibrating and irregular surfaces, where the eye is caught in endless paths of the glance: it catches the detail of a wrinkle that conceals the layers and tensions of the underlying material, then gently skims over a fragile bulge or sneak into a crack which seems to open a gateway, towards a mysterious elsewhere, a space to imagine.

Dreams dressed in paper by Caterina Crepax. Curator of the exhibition Patrizia Baldi. July 1 to 18 at La Cavallerizza, Piazzale Verdi, Lucca
Opening: Sunday June 01 18.30
Daughter of the famous comic books artist Guido Crepax, creator of the legendary Valentina, Caterina Crepax was born in Milan in 1964 and grew up in an atmosphere full of charm and imagination. Interior designer, she "sculpts" paper creating sumptuous and amazingly detailed clothes, that become refined objects of desire. With attention to recycling, re-use of paper materials of common use, such as the barren paper scraps - receipts, shredded sheets, punched edges of computer printouts or typography leftovers - she loves the ironic game of metamorphosis, turning them into precious "tissues".

Cuts by Hemmes. Curator of the exhibition Patrizia Baldi. July 1 to 18 at La Cavallerizza, Piazzale Verdi, Lucca
Opening: July 1 18,30
Hemmes is called the poet of cuts. When he sits in front of a painting, still he doesn't know what the final result will be. He feels an instinctive compulsion that is balanced only after the cuts have been covered with thick paints or color drippings, depriving the subject of any specific morphology. His painting is characterized by a liberating power of informal gesture that can be found in art painting. The painted paper "escapes" from the edges and gives a sculptural plasticity that leads to glassy tactility, sharp, almost punitive for the impudence of the act, in opposition to the gleam of the caressing, passionate and bright colors. All this has the extraordinary power to energize and surprise the onlooker who realizes, as Picasso said, to have an eye which listens, which loves these works "like one loves a flower or a music witout understanding them".

Timeless Rituals of Anna Onesti, from 1 to 18 July at the Cavallerizza, Piazzale Verdi, Lucca From 1 to 18 July
Opening: Thursday July 1 18,30
The works of Anna Onesti are composed of paper, color, essential things. Japanese paper craft that the artist uses and which dyes using ancient decorative proceedings related to dyeing that exploit the iridescent color possibilities, has the capacity to transmit material that absorbs a dimension in the sense of depth.
